About ESYS 3.0
ESYS 3.0 is an innovative system for utility cost settlement, designed for Energosystem, a company serving housing cooperatives and property management entities. The system consists of two parts: an advanced web application for employees (ES-Application) and an intuitive online service (ES-Portal) for customers and tenants. ESYS 3.0 is a thoroughly rebuilt and modernized version of the previous system, created to increase work efficiency, improve user experience, and adapt to the latest technological standards in the era of digital transformation.
Challenge
The ESYS 3.0 project presented us with a series of complex challenges, specific to each part of the system.
For ES-Application, the main challenge was to create a comprehensive system that would replace the existing solution while maintaining the proven functions of its predecessor. A key aspect was understanding and transferring complicated algorithms and business logic from the old system to the new one, while simultaneously improving and modernizing the entire process. An additional challenge was migrating a huge amount of data from the old, no longer supported solution. This required not only technical proficiency but also a deep understanding of the structure and significance of each data element to ensure their integrity and usefulness in the new system.
A key challenge in creating ESYS 3.0 was designing an intuitive and user-friendly interface accessible to people with varying levels of technical proficiency. The priority was to ensure that the system met WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, which required special attention during design. As a result, we created a solution that is accessible and easy to use for a wide range of users.
Solution
As part of the ESYS 3.0 project, we successfully modernized the existing utility cost settlement system, adapting it to contemporary technological standards and user needs, and expanded its functionality with new components.
ES-Application, the previous tool for Energosystem employees, has been thoroughly rebuilt and transformed into a modern web application. We preserved proven functionalities while introducing a series of improvements. We optimized utility consumption cost settlement processes, enhancing existing data management tools. We improved functions for importing and exporting data such as prepayments, readings, or additional fees, which significantly streamlined information management.
A key aspect of modernization was transforming the system into a web application. This solution eliminated the need to install software on individual workstations and enabled automatic system updates without user intervention. The result is not only easier work but also a significant reduction in costs associated with software maintenance and updates.
In modernizing ES-Application, we focused on improving security, efficiency, and accessibility. We implemented an advanced, multi-level permission system, increasing data protection and improving work organization. The use of modern web technologies significantly improved the application's performance and responsiveness, streamlining daily work with the system. Adapting to WCAG 2.1 standards made the system accessible to all users, regardless of their level of technical proficiency or potential disabilities.
A significant extension of the ESYS 3.0 system is the introduction of a completely new application - ES-Portal. This solution is dedicated to customers, designed with maximum intuitiveness and ease of use in mind. ES-Portal allows users to view utility consumption and download bills. The web application created for Energosystem customers is accessible from any device with internet access. The ES-Portal interface was designed with intuitiveness and simplicity of use in mind, making it easier for customers to access needed information and functions, regardless of the type of device used.
In summary, the modernization of ES-Application and the introduction of the new ES-Portal as part of ESYS 3.0 is a comprehensive update and extension of the utility cost settlement system that raises work standards in the company, increases operational efficiency, and provides better customer service. Thanks to the improvements introduced, new functionalities, and increased flexibility resulting from the use of web technology, the system is better prepared for future development. ESYS 3.0, as a project consisting of web applications, provides a solid foundation for further digital transformation of Energosystem, enabling easy updates and adaptation to changing business needs.
